Début août, le maître d’œuvre a lancé la quatrième et dernière tranche du projet de restauration extérieure de la Grande Chapelle au séminaire Saint-Sulpice. Ce grand projet de restauration, lancé en 2009, doit se terminer en juin 2012.
Les façades nord, est et sud ont été restaurées ainsi que les grandes verrières de ces mêmes façades. Maintenant, c’est au tour de la façade ouest et de la grande verrière représentant la Vierge, grâce de Dieu donnée aux hommes, de retrouver leur état d’origine. La Compagnie de Saint-Sulpice réalise ce chantier avec le soutien de la Direction régionale des affaires culturelles d’Ile de France, du Conseil général, du Conseil régional et de la Ville d’Issy-les-Moulineaux.
Voici quelques vues prises en octobre 2011 vous permettant de suivre l’avancement des travaux.
La première photo vous permet de repérer l’emplacement des photos de la façade et du fronton de la chapelle.
Photos 1 & 2 – L’état actuel de la façade ouest en cours de restauration.
Photo 3 – Les pierres des corniches sont parfois fortement attaquées.
Photo 4 - Des angelots qui n'ont que peu... figure humaine!
Photo 5 - Sur le haut de la façade, le bas des pierres fait voir l'érosion causée par les pluies.
Photo 6 - Le nettoyage par micro-gommage est déjà entamé en haut de la façade. On voit ici par contraste son effet.
Photo 7 - De nouvelles questions se posent grâce à l'échafaudage. Derrière les deux tourelles se révèle une zone inaperçue de rétention d'eau avec une fuite probable à l'intérieur du bâtiment. Le couvreur (Tradi Couverture) examine le problème pour chercher et proposer une solution.
Photos 8 à 10 - L'intérieur du fronton est très abimé.
Photo 11 – On voit une inscription à la base du groupe sculpté des Anges en bronze. Crux Ave ou Salut, ô Croix !
Photo 12 - Les bronziers des Fonderies de Coubertin prennent leurs repères pour la repose du groupe des Anges en bronze, actuellement prévue pour la mi-décembre.
[lang_en]Early August, the master-builder has launched the fourth and last phase of the outside restoration project of the Grand Chapel at the Saint-Sulpice seminary in Issy, France. This major project which started in 2009 is to be completed by June 2012. The frontage walls on the North, East and South sides as well as the stained-glass windows on these same walls have been restored. Now, it’s the turn of the West side frontage and of the large window -which represents the Virgin Mary, God’s grace given to human kind- to be brought back to their original state. The Society of Saint-Sulpice is carrying out this project with the support of French local authorities (the regional office for cultural affairs, the General Council, the Regional Council and the city of Issy-les-Moulineaux).
Here are some of the shots taken in October 2011 which show the progress of the restoration work.
The first picture identifies the position of the various shots taken of the frontage and the pediment of the chapel.
Pictures 1 & 2 – The current state of the Western frontage being restored.
Picture 3 – The cornice stones have been deeply attacked.
Picture 4 – The little angels have very little of … a human face!
Picture 5 – At the top of the frontage, the bottom of the stones shows the erosion due to rain.
Picture 6 – The cleaning by micro-exfoliation has already started at the top of the frontage. Its result is shown here.
Picture 7 – A new set of questions arises thanks to the scaffolding. Behind the two turrets an unseen area withholding water is revealed, probably leaking into the building. The roofer (Tradi Couverture) is analysing the problem to seek and propose a solution.
Pictures 8 to 10 – The inside of the pediment is very damaged.
Picture 11 – At the base of the sculpted group of angels, you may read the inscription Crux Ave or Hail Cross!
Picture 12 – The bronze craftsmen from the Fonderies de Coubertin are making marks for the re-installation of the bronze sculpted group of angels planned for mid-December. [/lang_en]
