Issy, le 2 janvier 2012 - Le groupe des anges en bronze sculpté, posé dans la cour du séminaire Saint-Sulpice (33 rue du général Leclerc à Issy-les-Moulineaux), sera visible de près samedi 7 janvier de 10h à 12h et de 13h à 17h. Le séminaire ouvre ses portes afin que tous puissent admirer cet ensemble de 3,5 tonnes.
Le groupe dit L’Assomption du monde sauvé par la Croix vient d’être restauré par les Fonderies de Coubertin après avoir gagné le Prix Chantiers du Cardinal décerné conjointement par le magazine Pèlerin (dans le cadre de son concours Un Patrimoine pour Demain) et par les Chantiers du Cardinal en novembre 2011.
La restauration consistait à remettre en état ce bronze abîmé par les intempéries et par les fientes de pigeons. L’ensemble a été patiné. Il sera reposé le 17 janvier dans la matinée sur le fronton de la Grande Chapelle.

En bronze sculpté, ce groupe d’une hauteur de 3,30 mètres, d’une largeur de 3,80 mètres et d’une profondeur de 1,50 mètres, s’est fait restaurer par la Fonderie de Coubertin à Saint Rémy-les-Chevreuse.
Dans un premier temps, la Fonderie va déplacer ce groupe de Saint-Rémy jusqu’à Issy-les-Moulineaux pour le déposer dans la cour au chevet de la Grande Chapelle. Le camion semi-remorque qui transportera ces 3 tonnes de bronze doit arriver jeudi matin à partir de 7h30. [lang_en]The sculpted group of angels, The Assumption of the World saved by the Cross, is coming back to the Saint-Sulpice seminary on Thursday 15 December. Made of bronze, this sculpture 3.30 metres high, 3.80 metres wide and 1.50 metres deep has just been restored by the Coubertin Foundry (Fonderie de Coubertin) located in the Chevreuse valley by Versailles (Saint Rémy les Chevreuse).
In the first phase, the Foundry is moving this sculpted group from Saint-Rémy to Issy-les-Moulineaux to place it in the yard at the chevet of the Grand Chapel. The articulated lorry transporting these 3 tons of bronze will arrive Thursday morning around 7:30 am. [lang_fr]Vendredi 16 décembre, Mgr Gérard Daucourt vient bénir la chapelle de semaine du séminaire Saint-Sulpice au cours de la messe quotidienne. Après deux mois et demi de travaux, dont la conception a été confiée à M. Michel Caussin, spécialisé dans l’art sacré et la conception de l’aménagement des lieux de culte (http://www.art-sacre-creation.com/), la chapelle est désormais équipée de mobilier liturgique symbolisant l’accueil, le partage et l’envoi en mission.
Il s’agissait de transformer le lieu existant en chapelle par son aspect et d’y apporter des éléments liturgiques signifiants et formateurs pour les séminaristes. Michel Caussin a tenu à vivre des moments avec la communauté dans cette chapelle. « Il n’est pas possible de concevoir sans vivre », explique-t-il. « J’ai retrouvé une communion entre les personnes que j’avais déjà vécue avec ma femme au sein du Chemin Neuf ou de l’Emmanuel. Voir sur les visages de tous ces jeunes qui se destinent à la prêtrise leur disponibilité, leur vocation m’a touché et m’a donné une grande joie intérieure. [lang_en]On Friday 16 December, Bishop Gérard Daucourt came to bless the Saint-Sulpice seminary chapel during daily Mass. The chapel is now equipped with liturgical furniture symbolising welcome, sharing, and sending off onto mission. The work lasted two months and a half, and the project was developed by Mr. Michel Caussin, an expert in sacred art and the conception of furniture for churches and praying areas (http://www.art-sacre-creation.com/).
The objective was to change the look of the existing hall into the look of a chapel, and to bring liturgical elements which had meaning for the formation of the seminarians. Michel Caussin insisted to live some moments with the community in this chapel. “It isn’t possible to conceive a project for a community without living with it,” he explained. “I found a communion between people that I had already lived with my wife within the Chemin Neuf or the Emmanuel catholic communities. To see on the faces of all these young men preparing to become priests their availability, and their vocation touched me, and gave me a great interior joy. [lang_fr]Michel Caussin, l’artiste qui a conçu le mobilier sacré, était intéressé de répondre à la demande qui lui était faite. « En union de vue avec le p. Magne, j’ai essayé de remettre du sens dans les objets du culte afin que les personnes qui entrent dans cette chapelle y soient sensibles », précise-t-il.
Par exemple, l’autel est conçu avec certains symboles. Ils n’apparaissent pas d’emblée. La surface concave symbolise l’accueil : quand on accueille, on ouvre les bras, on fait un creux. Le creux mène à la croix.
Le plateau est dans une forme inversée, la courbe vient vers l’assemblée pour symboliser le don du Christ qui se donne à celui qui s’avance vers Lui. Ainsi, la structure même de l’autel reprend ce que nous avons à dire du Christ ...lire la suite[/lang_fr]
[lang_en] Michel Caussin, the artist who created the sacred furniture, was interested in meeting the requirement which had been made to him. « Thinking alike with Fr. Magne, I tried to put meaning in the cult objects so that those who enter the chapel are sensitive to them », he said.
For example, the altar has been developed including symbols. They don’t always appear straight away. The concave surface symbolises welcome: when you welcome someone, you open your arms, you form a shape like a trough. This leads you to the cross.
The top has a mirror shape with a curve that goes towards the assembly in order to symbolise the gift of Christ who gives Himself to he who comes to Him. Thus, the structure itself of the altar relies on what we have to say of Christ....read more[/lang_en]

[lang_fr]Benoît XVI s’est rendu samedi 19 novembre à Ouidah, lieu historique de l’arrivée des premiers missionnaires, là où se trouve le séminaire de Saint-Gall. Le séminaire constitue une pépinière pour tout le continent africain. « Chers prêtres, la responsabilité de la promotion de la paix, de la justice et de la réconciliation, vous incombe d’une manière toute particulière », a déclaré Benoît XVI aux prêtres du Bénin et de toute l’Afrique. « Vous êtes appelés à être des hommes de communion. De même que le cristal ne retient pas la lumière, mais la réfléchit et la redonne, de même le prêtre doit laisser transparaître ce qu’il célèbre et ce qu’il reçoit. »
Ce séminaire, mis sous la protection de sainte Jeanne d’Arc et dédié à saint Gall, a été inauguré le 20 juillet 1930. The seminary is a real burgeoning training ground for the whole of Africa. “Dear priests, the responsibility for promoting peace, justice and reconciliation falls in a special way to you”, said pope Benedict XVI to the priests of Benin and all Africa. “You are called to be men of communion. As crystal doesn’t retain the light but rather reflects it and passes it on, in the same manner the priest must make transparent what he celebrates and what he has received.”
The seminary, placed under the protection of saint Joan of Arc and dedicated to saint Gall, was opened on July 20, 1930. In 1952 it expanded to a regional seminary, and from 1955 to 1971 it was led by the priests of the Society of Priests of Saint-Sulpice who started handing it over to the local clergy in 1971. ...read more[/lang_en]

[lang_en]On Thursday 3 November, at the Cité nationale de l’histoire de l’immigration (Immigration history national museum in Paris), Benoît Magne, a member of the Society of the Priests of Saint-Sulpice and provincial treasurer, will receive the Chantiers du Cardinal award for the sculpted bronze group of angels standing on the pediment of the Grand Chapel at the Saint-Sulpice seminary. This honour is awarded by the French weekly Pèlerin, as a result of its annual contest to save French sacred art named Un Patrimoine pour Demain (A Heritage for Tomorrow).
Currently, the Society of Saint-Sulpice who forms candidates for priesthood has launched major restoration work on the Grand Chapel of the Saint-Sulpice seminary in Issy-les-Moulineaux (France), with significant support from local authorities and the city of Issy-les-Moulineaux. [lang_fr]Début août, le maître d’œuvre a lancé la quatrième et dernière tranche du projet de restauration extérieure de la Grande Chapelle au séminaire Saint-Sulpice. Ce grand projet de restauration, lancé en 2009, doit se terminer en juin 2012. Les façades nord, est et sud ont été restaurées ainsi que les grandes verrières de ces mêmes façades. Maintenant, c’est au tour de la façade ouest et de la grande verrière représentant la Vierge, grâce de Dieu donnée aux hommes, de retrouver leur état d’origine. La Compagnie de Saint-Sulpice réalise ce chantier avec le soutien de la Direction régionale des affaires culturelles d’Ile de France, du Conseil général, du Conseil régional et de la Ville d’Issy-les-Moulineaux.

[lang_en]Early August, the master-builder has launched the fourth and last phase of the outside restoration project of the Grand Chapel at the Saint-Sulpice seminary in Issy, France. This major project which started in 2009 is to be completed by June 2012. The frontage walls on the North, East and South sides as well as the stained-glass windows on these same walls have been restored. Now, it’s the turn of the West side frontage and of the large window -which represents the Virgin Mary, God’s grace given to human kind- to be brought back to their original state. The Society of Saint-Sulpice is carrying out this project with the support of French local authorities (the regional office for cultural affairs, the General Council, the Regional Council and the city of Issy-les-Moulineaux).
